Creating Jobs and a Sustainable Economy

Unequivocally, creating jobs in Illinois is our most pressing concern! As a proven business leader who worked as a manager at a Fortune 100 company, I understand the realities of operating a business in this fragile economy. That’s why I will work day and night to pass legislation and create incentives that will bring or keep good paying jobs to Illinois and rebuild our economy.

Illinois is hemorrhaging jobs and new graduates of our university system to nearby states. The most significant factor in job flight is the amount of taxes and fees put on corporations and small businesses by our state over the last six years.  Over 300 new taxes and fees have been imposed on businesses.  Illinois also has a very expensive workers compensation requirement and favors tort heavy litigation.  Add in a “pay-to-play” politically corrupt environment and it is easy to see why Illinois is not a favorite state for corporations and small business to stay or be successful in.

First, we must put a tourniquet on the hemorrhaging of corporations and small businesses and their jobs by lowering the costs of maintaining a business in Illinois.  To build a sustainable healthy economy, we must encourage private industry jobs creation by reducing corporate and small business taxes and eliminating fees on the same, often which are duplicative. We must address workers compensation and recommended benefits to ensure Illinois is more on par with other states. And we must reduce health care costs that are choking the financial lifeblood of small businesses and corporations. These three simple financial incentives will encourage corporations and small businesses to not only stay in Illinois, but add high-paying quality jobs that strengthen our quality of life and support our economy.

In addition, we must eliminate the “pay-to-play political tax” that has plagued our state and adversely affected our financial and economic stability. Small businesses and corporations must trust our system of government to provide a stable and fair competitive environment.

Finally, we must end the “tort tax” which enriches attorneys at the cost to the taxpayer and prevents business from investing in Illinois.
